Christina Aguilera Was Afraid to Tour as a Mom: “I’m Breaking Free”

Christina Aguilera had stayed relatively out of the spotlight prior to making her comeback with empowering new singles “Accelerate” and “Fall In Line.” Six years since she last released an album and two kids later, the songstress phoned into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Friday, May 18, and shared with Ryan that she’s ready to break free from her comfort zone.

“It’s so exciting,” she said of her eighth studio album and accompanying tour. “I’ve never toured being a mom before. It’s one thing and I’m breaking free of this kind of comfort zone and this stagnant place I’ve been in kind of because I was a little afraid to break the mold having my children and everything I wanted to be in one place for them. I’ve kind of been afraid of this idea of touring but I was like, ‘Jeez, I’m not doing anyone a service here. I’m doing a disservice by not doing what I was born to do on this earth.’”

The “Accelerate” singer, who is mom to son Max, 10, and daughter Summer, 3, dropped the initial single off of her first new album in six years, Liberation, earlier this month and has since released empowering collab “Fall In Line” with Demi Lovato

“It kind of has been a mutual respect thing for a while,” Aguilera shared with Ryan of working with Lovato, who has idolized her for years. “I’ve noticed from afar what a support she’s been and I’ve appreciated the kind words and they seem genuine too. She seems like a genuine girl. She came from her own past and struggles and I have so much respect for someone that comes from a past and becomes strong and overcomes and thrives out of it. She’s just a bright, intelligent and sweet girl’s girl and great young woman,” she gushed. “When we first connected we were just like little silly girls … she’s like the dark-haired version of me … it was just like a lovefest.”

The duo are next set to perform their fiery, feminist track at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, May 20, and Aguilera will be performing all over, joining forces with Outkast's Big Boi for a run that kicks off in Hollywood, Florida.
