Country Star Doug Supernaw, 60, Dies At Home In Texas

Country singer Doug Supernaw reportedly died of cancer on Friday at the age of 60.

The singer, best known for his 1993 No. 1 hit 'I Don't Call Him Daddy,' was reported to have passed "peacefully at home in Texas," according to CMT.com.

Supernaw was born in Bryan and grew up in the Inwood Forest area near Houston before making the move to Nashville to pursue a career in country music. He went on to write several songs for a publishing company before landing his first major record deal in the early 1990s.

Supernaw's country career kicked off with the Texas-centric single, 'Red and Rio Grande' and went on to include 'Reno' and the aforementioned 'I Don't Call Him Daddy.'

Following a 20-year hiatus from music, Supernaw released a re-recorded greatest hits compilation in 2017, which included two new songs: 'Here's My Heart' and 'The Company I Keep.'

"Proving that he is a survivor, Doug's trials and tribulations have only served to strengthen him, and rekindle that desire to put out quality country music and perform for his adoring fans," his bio states on his website.

The Texas native announced he was diagnosed with stage IV lung and bladder cancer diagnosis on February 4, 2019.
