The coronavirus could re-shape what our future economy looks like

The economic pain we are feeling from the coronavirus is temporary. The changes that will take place after it's gone will be more long term.

One change we could see, according to Rice University's John Diamond, is more people working from home.

"This is going to show a lot of people that we can work in a different way than we have been doing. We have also been teaching our classes online. That's going to have an impact that can last, too," Diamond explained.

And there are other changes that could happen. Diamond says vacations may never be the same.

"Certain forms of travel aren't going to recover like people expect, mainly cruises," Diamond stated.

He does expect the airlines to regain what they've lost when this is over. And he says the virus could speed up the shift from brick and mortar to online shopping
