ABOUT LANEY'S LEGACY OF HOPE:

Our last in-person event was the 5th Annual Golden Gala in 2019. An epic night, and we regret that we won't be having it this year, but plan on next year's being bigger and better than ever.

We are now up to a total of 92 Fighters- 23 of them being from 2020, 16 in 2021 even despite the pandemic. Our grants range in amount from $500-$5,000. We had to decrease the amount of money given to Fighters from farther away as our income has been reduced. Here's our breakdown:

LOCAL (Berks and any surrounding county)- $5,000 1st grant/$2,500 2nd/$1,000 3rd (families may apply each year their child is in treatment, so a few of the grants written are to the same families)

NE (PA, DE, NJ, WV, MD, NY, Ohio)- $3,000/$1,500/$500

Nationally/Internationally (yes, we've actually had a Fighter from the Bahamas!)- $1,000/$500.

We provided our second grant of $100,000 for research to CHOP in 12/2019, this time for their work in Neuroblastoma (in honor of Fighter Riley from Leesport). We took Riley's mom Ashley along for the check presentation and tour of their lab.

Because we missed seeing our Fighter families at our annual events, we hosted a Fighter Family Movie Night at the Reading Imax on Halloween last year. 6 families joined us for the animated version of The Addams Family. We gave the Fighters and their siblings treat bags and we all wore our Halloween costumes.

The 3rd Annual Radiothon with Y102 last fall was a huge success, raising about $100,000 between call-in donations and the online raffles we ran simultaneously. We couldn't believe the generosity of our callers at the height such tumultuous times.

We did not have our annual Fashionista 5K in 2020 but came back with a "virtual 5K" in the spring of 2021. While it obviously was not the same as our in-person 5K, we had over 100 people registered.

The 5th Annual Golf Fore Hope Tournament in July was a success. This event always sells out, and a great time was had by all. For the 2nd year, we had a helicopter ball drop, which is a 50/50 raffle where the winner takes half the pot. Players (online and in person- you did not have to be at the tournament to play/win) purchased numbered golf balls that were dropped out of the helicopter. The ball closest to the hole wins, this year's winner taking almost $4,000! A few of our local Fighters joined us to meet the golfers (Ryder even golfed!).

-12/10 Spectators Bar & Grille does an annual "Christmas Blessings Campaign"- a night of live music, raffles, food specials, etc. to benefit LLH. This will be the 4th year.

-10/9 Goodwill Association is hosting a Bandapalooza with 6 local bands and all proceeds coming to LLH.

-Reading Royals have reached out to us to invite us to an upcoming pediatric cancer awareness night again, date TBD.

-Fighter Ryder's dad Toby is organizing a cornhole tournament this fall to benefit the foundation. That family has given back so much, actually, including proceeds from the last 2 runs held in Ryder's honor- the Run For Ryder hosted by Harley Davidson and Great Clips in Leesport.

It's heartwarming how the community has always rallied for us, and these events are just a few of the many ways people have kept Laney's Legacy alive.
