BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Popular movie theater chain Alamo Drafthouse Cinema will open its first New England location in Boston in early 2023.

The chain announced Tuesday its plans to open Alamo Drafthouse Boston Seaport, a 10-screen theater with approximately 767 seats. The theater will be located at 60 Seaport Blvd., which was previously occupied by ShowPlace Icon Theatre before it closed in March 2021 due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Founded in 1997, Alamo Drafthouse was an early pioneer in providing high quality service in the cinema industry, including serving meals to theatergoers and enforcing a strict "no talking, no texting" policy.

"We are thrilled to welcome Alamo Drafthouse to Seaport and be home to its first Boston location," said Ariel Foxman, General Manager of Seaport Boston WS Development, in a press release. "It's a best-in-class theater that brings movies and dining together to create an all around exceptional and fun experience for everyone."

The theater will also include The Press Room, a separate, full service bar offering craft cocktails, wine, and local beers on tap.
