After years of writing, recording and waiting, Wolfgang Van Halen's debut solo album Mammoth WVH has finally arrived.
The former high school junior varsity volleyball champion was bound to make a splash when his debut single, "Distance," hit No. 1 on the rock charts. Wolfie followed "Distance" with a parade of high-performing, heavy-rocking singles, bringing the hype around his LP to a fever pitch.
Now that his album has finally arrived, Wolfie tells Q104.3 New York's Out of the Box with Jonathan Clarke the outpouring of positivity is unlike anything he's experienced before in music.
"It's pretty crazy," Wolf says. "I certainly haven't expected the response that it's gotten. It's been way more than I ever could have expected and I'm really thankful for it."
Released under the band name Mammoth WVH, the album is a solo record in the truest sense, with Wolf writing and recording every note. He tells Q104.3 that the approach was inspired by the Foo Fighters' debut album.
"I mostly just wanted to do it because I wanted to see if I could," he says. "You know I've always admired how Dave Grohl started the Foo Fighters and he did his own thing for the first album." I wanted to see if I could do it. And it was a really good time."
To help him perform live, Wolfie will be flanked by a band of ace musicians, including Conspirators guitarist Frank Sidoris, To Whom It May guitarist John Jourdan, ex-Falling in Reverse bassist Ronnie Ficcaro and Tremonti drummer Garret Whitlock.
Mammoth WVH will hit the road this summer on tour in support of Guns N' Roses.
